Those home theater in a box are not flexible for adding anything to them. They are designed for you to watch a movie with surround sound only. You tv will only have an optical audio output, which has to be connected to a receiver or a home theater in a box with optical audio input. I would not recommend any of those home theater in a box. I would recommend you look at an Onkyo HT-S344, it is a 5.1 receiver and a set of speakers. Add a Panasonic blu ray disc player model BD-65, 75 or 85, they are the most dependable player in the market today. The total cost for what I recommend is around $ 500. Hope this will help you out.

You can get s/s on everything connected to the tv if you run an a/v cable from the audio output of the tv to the audio input of the s/s. You can also do this with a digital cable if both dvd and tv have a digital port.

Once you do this, make sure the s/s is on tv/video and the tv will have s/s plus all the devices that you have connected to the tv

Absolutely!

Use the digital audio out from your sound card and plug it into your receiver. Music files at 330 kbs should sound about as good as a CD on your system.

If your PC doesn’t have a digital audio output, you can use an add-on sound card for pretty cheap these days.

Check and see to make sure none of the cable have come loose on all the devices. Make sure you have the right source on the tv input you have plugged the HDMI cable to, along with the receiver. Hope this will help you out.

Why bother?

If good sound is your goal. None of these will cut it. HTIB’s are the red headed stepchild of home theater design, not worth mentioning.

The only HTIB I have ever recommended to anyone was the THX certified 7.1 Onkyo. It is the only HTIB to get and has OK performance. I would recommend this with great protest.

If on a budget, save up and get it or a separates setup.
