i need a pa system for my (garage) band. which ones are loud enough? passive or active? something very inexpensive.

It really depends on how many channels you are going to need. Do you want to run the guitars and bass through it as well, or is it just for vocals?

Passive and active usually refer to the pickups on a guitar or bass. Most P A’s can accommodate both.

If you are a loud band, then you would probably want to look for something in the 250-300 watt range minimum. You could probably find some package deals that include the power mixer, a couple 12 in speakers and speaker stands in the 600-900 dollar range. You can always find something used as well. I would look for either Yamaha or Peavy. They are pretty consistent in making decent equipment. It’s going to be hard to find something cheap that will do what it needs to do.

And remember, a P. A. is only as good a the microphone that is being run through it. Look for something made by Shur. Cheap mikes will even make the best P A’s feedback real bad.

i am looking for the cords(s) that runs from the receiver to the television. i found the owners manual and it has a coaxial digital wire labeled. Is that it? If so is it a wire with 4 total plug ins (2 on each side) and are color coded?

Your RCA surround sound system will have either an HDMI or component cable output. HDMI cable carries the video and audio, while the component only video and you will need am optical audio cable for the audio. Some home theater in a box are not flexible for other connection to the system. If you have an optical audio input then you are in shape. Your tv should have an optical audio output. Check the owners manual of your rca surround sound for the proper connection. Hope this will help you out.

(i know this is not music/entertainment but it was the CLOSEST category) can anyone suggest a good company that will give me a quote for updating the sound system at my church..i live in South Jersey and my church is less than 200 ppl. My church has very poor acoustics and the sound system needs to get replaced as it’s getting worse every time. I know that a full renewal could get very expensive, if we were to get a whole new sound system, and also if we would choose to remodel parts of the church such as the ceiling to improve the acoustics…but i want to know if anyone can suggest such company, and if they give a free quote even better as we’re a small church and can’t really afford to just pay for a consultation. Thanks

Headphone speakers aren’t nearly powerful enough to be used as a normal speaker.

They do make headphones which can do surround sound, but they’re still just headphones, and start at $ 150 or so.

Otherwise, if you want a surround sound system for your room, you’re going to have to buy one one of the cheap kits from Walmart or something. Be sure you get a system that has additional optical audio inputs, otherwise you won’t be able to connect additional things to it, like your game console.

Question by I need answers: How do I hook up my Sony Bravia surround sound system to my Blu Ray player?
I have a Sony wireless Bravia speaker system with 5 disk DVD player.

I’m having trouble connecting my Blu Ray player to it.

It’s a DAV-HDX 589WF Bravia.

I even tried connecting HDMI to my TV and optical cable to the DVD.

I either have picture or sound not both.

Any idea how to fix this?

That is exactly the way you want to connect it, because your receiver doesn’t have any video inputs, only audio inputs.

The trick is that you have to set the TV’s input to where the Blu-ray player is plugged in (HDMI 2?), so that you get the video. Then you set the receiver input source to play the optical audio from the Blu-ray player (it might be called auxiliary or external, optical 1).

You may also need to set the Blu-ray player to output audio from the optical port. Perhaps your player disables optical audio output when an HDMI cable is plugged into it, or else the port is disabled by default and needs to be enabled (set optical audio output to on).
