Question by asere: Surround speakers are a little low to be able to hear the effects?
I have in ceiling 75 watts Proficient brand speakers with a Yamaha AV receiver. My center channel is set at max with the speaker level setting and my left and right speakers are set a little lower than the center and my surrounds even lower than the L,R speakers. I don’t hear the surrounds very well and maybe because its set at a lower level. Can the surround sound speakers be set at the same level as the L,R speakers or should I leave everything as is?

If you don’t have an automatic set up in your receiver, get a sound level meter from Radio Shack or other electronic stores, then set it up on a tripod at ear level in your ideal seating position then play a white noise test signal either generated by your receiver or get a set up disk…level the sound from speaker to speaker until they are all putting out the same level and its right according to the meter… slight tweaks and further adjustment can then be made by ear but usually the meter will have it right…
