Surround speakers are a little low to be able to hear the effects?

Question by asere: Surround speakers are a little low to be able to hear the effects?
I have in ceiling 75 watts Proficient brand speakers with a Yamaha AV receiver. My center channel is set at max with the speaker level setting and my left and right speakers are set a little lower than the center and my surrounds even lower than the L,R speakers. I don’t hear the surrounds very well and maybe because its set at a lower level. Can the surround sound speakers be set at the same level as the L,R speakers or should I leave everything as is?

If you don’t have an automatic set up in your receiver, get a sound level meter from Radio Shack or other electronic stores, then set it up on a tripod at ear level in your ideal seating position then play a white noise test signal either generated by your receiver or get a set up disk…level the sound from speaker to speaker until they are all putting out the same level and its right according to the meter… slight tweaks and further adjustment can then be made by ear but usually the meter will have it right…

Will plugging a multi effects processor straight into a pa system sound okay?

Question by bmth: Will plugging a multi effects processor straight into a pa system sound okay?
I have a LIne 6 X3 floor pedal. I was hoping to be able to get the right amount of volume without going into big bucks by purchasing a cab AND amp. Seeing as I can’t plug straight into a cab, would going straight from guitar to pedal to pa reduce the sound quality? If so, how much? Is there a better way to get more bang for my buck?

This kind of pedal comes with amp simulation built in. You can adjust reverb, eq, and other key elements of sound.

So they’re great for gigs! You can just take your 6-string and your effects processor and you’re all set.

Just plug into the mixer, have your sound check, adjust as needed, and that’s that.

This is a church that needs acoustical treatment to bolster congregational singing and enhance the experience for the performers on stage. The sound system performs quite well and will perform better after acoustical changes. The acoustic block on the walls are not enough or even the right kind of treatment for a church where singing and music is required.
