I’m looking to buy a sound system for my car, possibly used, and need some advice!?

Question by LesYeuxCommeLaMer: I’m looking to buy a sound system for my car, possibly used, and need some advice!?
I have a 2005 Jetta GLI with a Pioneer Premier CD player, and am looking to upgrade the rest of the sound system. I’m not very impressed with the speakers in the car (maybe some of them are blown out?), and am also considering getting a sub/amp. I’ve seen a lot of used ones for sale on Craigslist, but need some advice on what to look for in terms of the sub, amp, connection cords, and speakers. Any advice you can offer would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Craigslist is a good place to start, for cheaper priced stereo equipment. Atleast you get to hear the system before you buy it. A few things to look for…1. check the gain on the amp. If it’s turned all the way up, it’s been played hard. Not a good thing. 2. Push lightly on the subs. If you hear scratching, DO NOT buy them. 3. Push on the subs one at a time, check for movement of the other sub. If it moves, it doesn’t have a divider in the box. You won’t get great bass response out of a box with no divider.
As far as speakers are concerned, go with a good name brand componet set ( polk, kicker, alpine). You can buy a good set for $ 150~ $ 175 new.
Choosing a sub depends on what kind of music you plan on listening to. For rap, I’d recomend a 12″ sub. It is a well rounded sub that will provide a wide range of bass.
If you find something on CL and are unsure, e-mail me and I will be happy to give you more advice on quality and fair price to offer.

will my computer sound system play audio if my computer is hooked up to my TV?

Question by : will my computer sound system play audio if my computer is hooked up to my TV?
I have a Logitech z-2300 2.1 sound system hooked up(headphone jack) to my dell inspiron. I am getting ready to purchase a panasonic 42 inch plasma tv and i am going to hook up my computer to it by running a dvi to hdmi cable from the laptop to the tv. Will the audio go through the tv or will it continue to play through my sound system? if the audio goes through the tv is there a way that i can hook up my sound system to that tv? or dont i have to get a dvd player and hook it up through there to the tv? I am trying to not spend more money than i have too and i would rather not buy a dvd player until i have enough money to get a blue ray dvd player, since my laptop plays the dvds. Thanks for any help you can give me!

The audio will continue to play through your sound system, DVI to HDMI cables do not carry the audio. If you would like to run audio from your computer to your TV you would have to use and audio out cable.

Q&A: TV/Surround system problems please can you help me?

Question by : TV/Surround system problems please can you help me?
Oki basically for the past 12-18months my brother (he isnt a bro to me) has somehow managed to ruin the loudness and sound vibes from our living room TV and Cinema surround system. I will start off with the TV

TV:
Barely a year old top quality LG TV cost around £850 so anyway when me and my dad first started watching I remember our volume was around 24-30 but now………

We have it on 40odd and +6 which is on the menu
It was impossible to have the TV on +6 and 40 as it would be blaring out but now however it doesnt seem that loud the quality of sound has lessen and at times it seems disjointed. My brother has made everything feel this way I honestly dont know what to do about this.

LG Cinema system:

This for me is the one that hurts me the most I swear the punk has changed and pretty much ruined everything
Heres a picture of the stereo system

When we first bought the cinema system it was like a heavens paradise for sports and cinema lovers the quality of sound was immense it was pure surround sound entertainment. However the joy was short lived and now I have the following problems….

The back speakers should be as loud as the TV in itself the rear speakers cover the atmosphere the background noises it was fantastic but now you can barely hear the noise coming from the speakers….

The bass is 100% gone

The main speakers dont sound very fluent
There is no real surround sound you dont feel it running through the living room
I have no idea how the boy manages it but the narrators/persons voice is very low

Basically he has tampered with everything on the system I have gone through everything to the best of my ability and still I’ve come up with no answers. I dont speak to my brother anymore tbh I believe hes done this because he has a new GF and hes paranoid about sound+noise I’ve conforted him about this but he will never say or admit what he has done so now I need your help im pleading with each and one of you to help me out here. Thank you.

In my experience most LG products have a Factory Reset function in the main menu, it may not always appear as Factory Reset but it is up to you to interpret the options as you see them.
It is unlikely that a family member has managed to do any real harm to both the TV and Home Cinema and the chances are that a sound setting has been altered. Your TV will most certainly have options for a number of sound modes including Movie, Sport, Music etc. and these all give different volume, bass and treble output. The Home Cinema certainly has a feature to test your speakers one at a time and again gives the option for different sound modes, it also allows you to set the volume on different speakers to account for different room size, layout and acoustics. Find this option and each speaker in turn will give a ‘hissing’ sound to confirm it is working. Refer to the user manuals that came with these items if you still have them, otherwise go to ‘www.lge.co.uk’ select ‘Support’ then ‘Manuals & Drivers’ to download them.
Hope this helps. uk.meltdown.

How do i install the sound mixer to my win xp operating system?

Question by Vadim: How do i install the sound mixer to my win xp operating system?
I just installed my new operating system and i plugged in a philips sound system with speakers!

When i try to go to the volume control it says that there is no sound mixer installed what do I do?

Vadim…
You need to install your system sound driver.
If you have an installation CD for your computer, the driver should be there. If not…
Get your computer model and go to the manufacturer web site and search for drivers, sound driver among them, download it and install it, your problem should be solved. If you have a cloned computer, find out what motherboard you have and with that info search (google) it.
Good Luck!!

Is it worth it to buy a surround sound test cd to calibrate my surround system?

Question by wick7998: Is it worth it to buy a surround sound test cd to calibrate my surround system?
I just got it installed (I did it myself). The wires were pre-run by my builder and labeled, but I’m not sure they were labeled correctly. Will the test CD help me figure out if the correct sound is coming from the correct speakers? Thanks.

What kind of receiver do you have? Check your owners manual, most better receivers have a built in test to assist you with setting up the surround.
If you dont have that option then yes it is worth getting the setup CD.
