Will Panasonic SC-HT56 surround sound work on a Vizio VW26L?

Question by eric c: Will Panasonic SC-HT56 surround sound work on a Vizio VW26L?
I have a Vizio VW26L and have been looking to get a blu ray player and surround sound system. I’ve been looking at the Panasonic SC-HT56 for the surround sound and was wondering if I am able to hook that up to my tv so I can watch tv, play my xbox 360 and watch dvd’s in surround sound.

Sure. Hook everything up to the tv. Then run a digital optical cable from the output on the Vizio to the surround sound. Done.

Anything you play on the TV will be sent to the surround sound.

As side note unless your going for the wireless speaker aspect of this system you may want to look around at some Onkyo or Yamaha home theaters in a box systems. They will have more inputs and better configuration posibilites for around the same price.

Q&A: How to hook up xbox 360, surround sound, and vizio hdtv

Question by panzafoust: How to hook up xbox 360, surround sound, and vizio hdtv
I have a xbox 360, 26″ vizio vw26l (the one without optical output), and am looking to purchase a surround sound system. Im wondering will this wiring setup work?

HDMI out from the xbox to the surround sound reveiver, then, HDMI from the reveiver to the tv’s HDMI input.
I have the HD AV cable so would i hook up the video to the tv and the audio to the reciever?
thanks for the info.

Unfortunately, receivers cannot use HDMI to get the audio signal. This means you MUST still connect your 360 (and any other surround sound device) to your receiver with a separate audio cable. In the 360′s case, this would be an optical audio cable. The connector for the optical audio cable is located on the HD-AV cable kit, or, if you bought the official Microsoft HDMI Cable Kit for the 360, it came with a special connector that features only the audio ports.

I was rather annoyed to find out that I had to go buy the silly Microsoft HDMI cable just to get that stupid connector… At least it’s not TOO outrageously priced. Still, why can’t they just sell the audio connector separately?
