Why would my Surround speakers for my tv only have 1 output that works?

Question by : Why would my Surround speakers for my tv only have 1 output that works?
I have this surround sound and out of all the speaker inputs in back, only 1 works. I checked all my speakers. The only other one that works is where the sub goes. Any ideas?

Surround speakers are a little low to be able to hear the effects?

Question by asere: Surround speakers are a little low to be able to hear the effects?
I have in ceiling 75 watts Proficient brand speakers with a Yamaha AV receiver. My center channel is set at max with the speaker level setting and my left and right speakers are set a little lower than the center and my surrounds even lower than the L,R speakers. I don’t hear the surrounds very well and maybe because its set at a lower level. Can the surround sound speakers be set at the same level as the L,R speakers or should I leave everything as is?

If you don’t have an automatic set up in your receiver, get a sound level meter from Radio Shack or other electronic stores, then set it up on a tripod at ear level in your ideal seating position then play a white noise test signal either generated by your receiver or get a set up disk…level the sound from speaker to speaker until they are all putting out the same level and its right according to the meter… slight tweaks and further adjustment can then be made by ear but usually the meter will have it right…

Q&A: How to mount surround speakers on the wall?

Question by Tank: How to mount surround speakers on the wall?
I have a Sony DAV -S880 surround sound system. I would like to mount the two rear speakers on the wall however there is no designed way of doing this on the speakers. I am able to detach the bottom half of the tower as it is able to be made into a shorter tower. I can also unscrew the metal disk base to just leave a speaker. Does anyone know a way in which I could fix this this to the Wall?

Thanks!

Stores that sell sound systems might have special brackets you can buy for this purpose. Try radio shack or other speaker, sound system stores.
If no luck there, then just go to a hardware store and look for some decorative “L” brackets. You can easily attach an “L” bracket to the wall and mout the speaker onto that.

Surround speakers?

Question by PAB: Surround speakers?
I have a wall mounted plasma and want to add surround sound. Can anyone recommend speakers, front pair and centre either long and slim to complement the screen or miniature like Bose. (Not considering Bose after reading this forum). Rears to be small but not necessarily miniature.

Don’t go for wireless speakers.

It depends on your budget.

If money is no object, then you could go for something like the Mordaunt Short Genie system. Without a doubt, the Mordaunt Short Genie system has been one of the best reviewed and most highly praised speaker packs of recent times. Take a look for yourself and it’s not hard to see why. Unlike its boxy rivals, the satellite speakers with the Genie surround sound system are sculptured from aluminium. The design is further enhanced by a built-in stand that also doubles as a wall mounting bracket for the individual speakers. With an excellent reputation for their subwoofers, you’d expect the packaged sub’ to be something special; and you’d be right. Bass is deep yet controlled, and thanks to phase and frequency controls, blends seamlessly with the satellite speakers.

For less than £100, Eltax do a great five-speaker set, with mini speakers for the front three and really good looking slim floorstanders. But you would probably still need to get a woofer/sub-woofer.

You can even get a full set of 5.1 surround sound speakers for less than a tenner! The AS100 is a silver-finished slimline set and even has an active sub-woofer. And it’s available at the ridiculously cheap price of £9.99!
