Question by thedude22: How do I hook up my surround sound receiver to my TV using the TV as audio, not the surround sound speake?
I want to use my surround sound receiver without the surround sound speakers. I basically want to use the receiver as a DVD player for my room, but the surround sound speakers would be a bit much. Therefore, I want to use the TV as audio. Is there a way to do this?

If this DVD player of yours has a set of red/white stereo audio outputs, simply connect those to your TV along with the video cable.
If your DVD player doesn’t have audio outputs, then you’ll have to get a new DVD player.
This lack of flexibility is why I hate those “home theater in a box” kits so much. They may be cheap, but they often just come with a DVD player that has a surround sound decoder inside of it, and no additional inputs or outputs that a real surround receiver would have.
