help with buying a surround sound! Does anyone know the brand ONkyo?

I am trying to pick out a christmas present for my husband. He really wants a surround sound but I am having a hard time picking out the best one. If I had the money I would deff. go with Bose. But.. I don’t. So, I have been looking around for something in the price bracket of 250-350. I have read a lot of reviews and found Onkyo to be the best/most consistent.

They are selling a HT-S3100S for 299.00 and also selling a refurbished HTS4100S for 299.00 new at 499.00.
What should I do? What systems are other people using? as anyone use Onkyo before? What would you buy for yourself if u had 300.00 to spend?

I bought a refurbished Onkyo surround sound system for my husband a few years ago, all that’s left are the speakers — the receiver burned up. We have since replaced the receiver with a Pioneer, and it works very well.
