Your s/s is a theater in a box and that’s how they work. An a/v receiver gives you good s/s on all devices because your devices play thru the stand alone receiver.
You can run a digital or a/v cable from the tvs audio output back to the s/s audio input and then you will get better sound but not as good as when you play a dvd. Put the receiver in multi and you will get sound to the rear speakers also.
