Q&A: WIRING A SOUND SYSTEM?

Question by Mark J: WIRING A SOUND SYSTEM?
Hey

I currently have a NAD 302 amp with cambridge audio s70′s however i play music from my computer using a 3.5m jack to 2 rca’s and plug them into the cd port.

however i want to add a sub to my system but aren’t too sure on how to wire it because my amp does not have a sub out connection.

i have 2 vague ideas on how to do so but they probably aren’t right.
1. could i run 2 rca cables in for example the CD port in my amp to the input in the sub then run the speakers from the high level output and and then connect the 3.5mm jack into the line level input?

2. (with a sub that has high level output AND input) run speaker wires into the input from the amp and then speaker wires from the output into the speakers?

i am looking to buy a cambridge audio s90 however looking at pictures of the connection not all of them have high level output and inputs.

2 sounds the best I’m not sure number one will even work, because there is no line filter involved….

NAD is good stuff but I am not that familiar with their surround sound.
It sounds like you just need to change the selection of mode, if the wiring is right it should play rears in any mode except a selection for mains. I dont know their terminology but select stadium or something else and the rears should work. Center will work when something is recorded in Dolby Surround or more advanced.
Good luck
