Question by TheNeonJellyfish: Microphone sound system question?
Ok so how does a microphone sound system work, what I mean is I’m starting up a band and we have a microphone for vocals obviously but what is needed, a mixer or an amp or something for the sound? Please help, sorry but I’m just not sure on it all. Thanks guys!

Answer by WyattEarp
First you will need a mixer…so you can run all your mics and instruments too. The the mixer will need to run to an amp before going to the speakers. The mixer allows you to adjust the volume of each mic and instrument before its amplified. For each mic and instrument you will need a channel on the mixer. If you have 2 mics and 2 instruments then you will need a 4 channel mixer.

Cheers

Is there a way to plug my laptop sound into a standard stage microphone system?

Question by toofah: Is there a way to plug my laptop sound into a standard stage microphone system?
My children’s elementary school auditorium has a standard sound system with regular stage microphones. When we do slide show presentations, it would be great to plug right into the sound system instead of holding the microphone close to the laptop speakers. Is there some sort of converter cable of device that can be used to plug a laptop into the sound system?

Best answer:

Answer by MrAr0chet
the mics probably use 1/4 inch inputs so yes, just run something from your laptop soundcard (headphone jack…3.5mm) and then use a 3.5mm to 1/4 converter plug. You can find them on ebay.
