Sound System for Sailboat?

Question by 10aila: Sound System for Sailboat?
Hi,
I have a small sailboat which I would like to install a sound system in. However, I can’t seem to find an amplifier. The speakers are two 25W marine speakers and the source is an iPod. I want the music to be about as loud as a boom box.. In other words, I need a very small amp that can run on little power but still deliver big sound.
P.S. I don’t have a whole ton of cash, so how can I do this cheaply?

Just get a small car stereo with an ipod dock function, and there you go. Doesn’t need to be a flash one, and you can get a sealed container mounting from most chanderies, so check your local auto super store, or electrical store, Kmart, boat shop etc. There is heaps of stuff out there.

What do you think? Answer below!

I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on weatherproof audio systems for a humid university indoor pool?

Question by stauf7: I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on weatherproof audio systems for a humid university indoor pool?
I am in the process of searching for a decent audio system for use in our university’s indoor pool area. The audio system would get daily use and the pool area itself will have a constant high humidity. We used to keep portable stereos in that area and replaced them as they decayed, but we’re looking into installing a fixed system for better sound coverage and durability. I am looking for at least 4 speakers around the pool area, and the amp and CD player can be in the lifeguard office which has slightly less humidity. I’ve looked into marine/weatherproof speakers and most of them appear to be in-wall, which is not something I’m looking for. Any information would be appreciated, thanks!

I have never seen any come in sets of 4 unfortunately. But since you are looking, you want outdoor speakers. I have linked a site below that has a nice selection of outdoor speakers. You should hopefully be able to find what you need on that page.

Good luck!

Im buying a wrangler and i want a decent sound system in it. If I take it offroad do i need marine speakers?

Ive been told the inside of a Wrangler is waterproof/made so you can wash it out. If I want to take a jeep offroad or possibly wash it out do I need marine speakers inside it so they are waterproof?

Although most jeeps are very rugged,I wouldn’t wash out the inside. This can cause corrosion and electrical problems.A good shop vac. and some spray cleaner will normaly do.As for the speakers,If your going to ford water of any significant depth, you may want to up grade to marine speakers. You may also want to seal any body grommets around wires with a good RTV.

Your opinion on people who put high $ sound systems in Jeep Wranglers?

Question by Casual Catastrophe: Your opinion on people who put high $ sound systems in Jeep Wranglers?
I’ve gotten some heat from hardcore Jeepers for putting a good sound system in my Wrangler and I’m just wondering why that is. I am the kind of person who really likes my music and I do a lot of highway driving which gets really noisy with a soft top or if the top is completely down. That’s why I decided to put a high quality marine rated sound system in the vehicle. It’s all Polk Audio, 5 1/4″ components in the dash, 6 3/4″ components in the sound bar and 2 8″ subs in the back. Run by 2 Polk Audio amps.. the retail value of the whole affair is near $ 2,000 (but thanks to ebay I paid maybe half that..) It sounds incredible and can easily over power wind noise on the highway.. and let’s face it.. driving into the sunset with the top down and doors off with some Tom Petty at max volume is just pretty cool anyways!

I guess maybe some “manly beer guzzling 4×4 enthusiasts” just look at me as a little 20 year old punk? I don’t know.. I mean it’s not like that’s all I’ve done to the Jeep.. it’s got about a grand in off road accessories already and today I just dropped another $ 2,400 on a 4″ lift and new wheels and 33×10.5″ tires.. it’s definitely an off road Jeep too not just a daily commuter.. it’s seen more than a few days where cleaning the mud off is a 4 hour job.

So what’s your opinion? Should Wranglers be strictly off road or can they be rolling boom boxes so you can have fun on the drive to the trail too?
