Home Theatre Sound System

Home theatre/sound system and computers?

Question by RunningWest: Home theatre/sound system and computers?
Looking to buy a small home theatre system (under $ 750) for an apartment. We have a TV, DVD player and PVR etc. but want to add a sound system and controller that will allow us to attach an Ipod and computer (so I can play mp3s from itunes). We are also planning on using this system without the TV/DVD/PVR for a simple sound system for a small wedding (and as a home stereo) so it needs to stand on it’s own too. Any suggestions? How do we hook up the computer?

Your ipod and computer can be hooked up to your recieiver using a cable from the headhone jack on the cpu and ipod to the analog (left/right, white, red) inputs on your reviever.
Using a cable like this:

Question by I_Robot: What are the differences between a 5.1 HI-FI DVD sound system and a 5.1 DVD home theatre sound system?
I’d like to compare between the two types in terms of audio quality and capabality when it comes to music and movies sound effects and tracks. I already experienced a couple of panasonic and sony home theater systems during the past 5 years at home and I quite enjoyed the sound quality with music listening and movie watching with both, but sometimes when I think of buying a new sound system and go to any of the big electronics shops; I notice some big and beautifully designed 5.1 HiFi systems I feel like having one of those for a change, but I’d keep thinking of movies and I presume that HiFi systems don’t give clear sound as pretty much as it is with especialized home theater systems especially when it comes to subwoofing clarity!

I consider HI-Fi to be a product of the analog days and obsolete. A 5.1 sound system is digital. So are CDs. Don’t worry about the digital part. Worry about the quality of the speakers themselves. See if the electronic shops will let you demo them. If you like the sound then buy.
