Question by alexbinaz: HD SURROUND SOUND SYSTEM FOR UNDER 600?
I have a 120hz 46″ Samsung 650 Series LCD and a 80gb MGS4 ps3. I have already spent over 2100 for my HDTV and PS3 and now I’m looking for a Surround sound. I would prefer a 7.1 but a 5.1 is alright. I don’t really want to spend over 600 total on the surround sound. I know it sounds cheap most likely. However in this economy I’m trying to be semi-smart about finishing my home theater.
I am planning on buying a 5.1 Bose system once I move into a new home. However I want an audio system for now until I can get the custom bose set up for my home. Hence why I don’t want to spend a lot of money until then.
My question is where can I find an Amazing home theater system for under 600 total. I want strong bass clear loud sound. I obviously play video games and play blu-ray movies. I would prefer a system that can play TRU HD. And has amazing sound quality
So I ask what is the best? Where can I get it and how much.

Don’t be afraid to use technical terms. I am A+ Certified and built a few PC’s. I know TV’s but I’m not too familar with Audio Equipment.

save your money and forget about bose.they are way overpriced.
many major brands have really nice systems for 600 bucks.
go shopping online.
you could also start with a good subwoofer,2 nice speakers and a good reciever.then add on.that’s the best way to go for quality sound.
especially in the subwoofer department.you’ll have great,loud sound right away and can add the other channels later.

Question by James: Does a surround sound system have to support DTS- HD to output DTS-HD on a Bluray disk?
I have the Logitech Z-5500 surround sound system. It comes with Dolby Digital, and DTS 96/24. But if I were to buy a Bluray player with DTS-HD, does my surround sound system have to support DTS-HD also for it to be able to output it?
Oh and the Bluray player would be connected via Optical cable to my surround sound system.

Your system doesn’t support HD sound formats ( not via optical cable ). You need to have a receiver that supports audio via HDMI connection or you have a Blu-ray player with 7.1 multi-channel analog outputs and a non HDMI receiver with 7.1 multi-channel analog inputs.

Question by Apes: If your current surround sound system is not HD compatible do you need to get a new one for an HD television?
I heard that you can just buy an HD DVD player and hook it up to your old surround sound. Is this true? Does it diminish the full HD experience that is possible with a new HD compatible surround sound system?

you need a decoder all new systems that use the hd players
needs them for playing back the dvd , that happen to me a older system didnt work with my tv so yea …..system will not put out any sound ,

I’ve been looking for a Surround Sound system that supports Dolby TruHD and DTS HD but the ones I’ve been seeing has a blu ray player included, which I already have. I’m looking at $ 700 to spend but would really like one without a Blu Ray player.

The Harman Kardon AVR-254 is a great receiver. It supports all the formats, and has a great user interface, and many features. It will cost you around $ 400, then you will need speakers on top of that.
