Watts are not to be equated with quality. For one, there’s RMS watts, peak watts, and PMPO watrs. RMS watts are measured to FTC standards and comparable between products, peak watts are at 10% distortion and not reasonable figures, while PMPO ratings are based upon what an amplifier chip can do for a tenth of a second before burning up. Also, note that twenty watts is enough for a den, and 100 watts should be loud enough to annoy neighbors. Many gigging rackmount amps can’t even muster 500 wattsx2 at 8ohms, so I think your request for a kilowatt of sound is absurd. You’re also not factoring in speaker sensitivity or fidelity. Rude, perhaps, but I think you’re the sort who’d dig just using a pair of used car subwoofers and a pair of bookshelfs running off a cheap amplifier (seen it, hits hard). With ten buckins in cabling, the whole shebang wouuld hook up to any 3.5mm line out.
For something a bit more proper, perhaps some of the more expensive Logitechs.

505 peak watts, or about 350 RMS watts at a sane distortion level.

Question by artashes: Best Sound system for a pc for music and gaming? 2.1 or 7.1?
I’m currently using a head set Turtle beach x11 and I’ve been thinking of getting a sound system for my pc and I’ve ran into a little problem. I’ve always wanted to set up a 7.1 to get that experience of being in the place, say a game. So when something blows up behind you, you actually get the feeling that it happened behind you. But I’ve been watching and reading A LOT of amazing review on the Corsair Sp2500 system and they’re not 7.1, they’re 2.1, so now I’m doubting if I’m gonna get a better experience if i get a different product despite all the amazing reviews the SP2500′s are getting. Some reviewers are saying that it’s better than a 7.1 sound system and even the ever so popular Logitech Z5500.
Again, I’m really doubting the fact that in the SP2500′s, all the speaker are facing your way, and I don’t think it’ll give a very good experience in gaming. I also listen to Dubstep, Drum and bass, and some rock and the SP2500′s are looking good in performing that.
So…. what sound system do you recommend?
Or should i just stick with my headset?? I quite like my headset but I just thought I’d get the sound system for better experience during day and use the headset at night to not annoy people.

Answer by Dr. House ripped off a stinker.
I’ve got the Z-5500′s and i can tell you that although they are only 5.1 and not 7.1, they really give you a more immersive experience in games.
You know when the enemy is behind you before you can even see them. Same goes for rear left and rear right as well. They give you 4 directions, not just two.
Now i’m not sure what the 2.1 technology is like but with only 2.1 channels, the speakers should both be in front of you. I may be wrong but to me, that means that you aren’t going to hear anything behind you in a game.
I can’t recommend the z-5500′s enough. And that’s not just because i have them, it’s because they truly are awesome, especially when running optical sound through them.
And there’s more options for the sound in the control panel than you ever thought you needed but actually do.

Question by Ciso101: Looking for the best PC surround sound system for under 0?
I saw the Logitech X-530 for ~$ 74 in Walmart. It looked pretty nice.
Right now I have just a 2.1 from Boston Acoustics.
I play video games, listen to music, and watch movies on my PC.
Do you think the X-530 is okay? or is there a better one?
Thanks

Answer by Mizzle
Yeah, the X-530 is a good set of speakers. There is another set you might consider, the Logitech Surround Sound Speakers Z506. They are slightly more powerful than the X-530, i think by like 5 watss rms, so not a huge difference. They do vary a little, I know the X-530′s have wall mountable speakers, where as i dont think the Z506′s do, along with a few other things. The Z506′s are slightly more expensive, i think ranging from $ 90-$ 100. I guess just look at the features and figure out which one is better for your situation, and youll probably have to orger the Z506′s from an online store, so already the X-530′s already have an edge if your local walmart carries them.

I’ve never heard a PC sound system worth a damn no matter what speakers are connected to it. The problem with PC sound systems is always poor quality. Sound cards do only enough to make noise, not quality sound. That’s what a dedicated home theater is for. Logitech is all about hype. They sell tons of junk from China. I would never in a million yrs bother with Logitech brand speakers. I bought a crappy pair of Bose Media Mates years ago & they are adequate. For $ 82.99 your gonna get what you pay for. Don’t expect them to last very long. You’ll either toss them for lack of quality or ear fatigue. I realize you want a nice surround package, but lets take a better look at what your doing. No PC n this planet that I have ever seen can do the job of a decent well thought out designed surround system. No cinema that I have ever been too was assembled in one day from one box of goods. I treat my home cinema like a hobby & I have spent yrs making it on a shoe string budget. I buy what I can as funds allow it. My home cinema has a current insured value of about $ 8K USD. In quantity it’s not much, but in quality it’s all there. And not one damn thing is made in China. I’ve made it a point of that. Good day Sir!
