7.1 Surround Sound Speakers

Will my sound card support 7.1 surround sound speakers?

Question by naqz08: Will my sound card support 7.1 surround sound speakers?
My computer has an integrated “Realtek High Definition Audio” soundcard. I researched it a bit but came up with nothing; I want to get a Creative 7.1 Inspire P7800 Speakers which are surround sound. Will I be able to support the speakers or will only 3 work (I heard that it’s what happens when your sound card isn’t good enough.)?

How many ports does your sound card have? Some sound cards use the normal output ports and input ports to power 5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 speakers.

theres no real difference in the amount of speakers you have. maybe louder.. but anyways

the back speakers should be 2-3 ft above ear level and aimed inward. they should be placed 120degrees from the sitting area.

the center channel should be mounted or placed below or right above the TV. the side speakers should be close to the TV as possible similar to the built in speakers on the TV.

the sub can be placed anywhere preferably in a corner

Be sure to calibrate your surround. measure how far each speaker is way from you and adjust it accordingly to your sitting position.

EDIT: this is with 5.1

Speakers are like food. One person may hate broccoli while the other loves it. You have to go to a good A/V store and listen for yourself. I would suggest Klipsch, Polk, Boston Acoustics, and Cambridge Soundworks as a start. Also Definitive Technology has some great speakers but you have to buy them then return them if you don’t like ‘em (they don’t sell through brick & mortar stores, that I know of).
For receivers, test out Denon, Yamaha, and Onkyo.
