What will the home stereo sound system be like in the near future?

Question by slipy8787: What will the home stereo sound system be like in the near future?
Give me your ideas and opinions about what a home sound system means to the user and what they really want in the near future maybe in the next 10 years. Thanks!

(It will help with my university project)

Like now only more so. Most people will befooled into buying plastic 2160i or whatever “multimedia” systems with harsh grainy opamps playing into plastic speaker cabinets. Few will continue to listen to good sources playedthrough amps designed for audio into speakers where the cabinet costs about the same as the drivers.

what is the quality of Denon surround sound systems ? ?

what is the quality of Denon surround sound systems ?

Best answer:

Answer by WenwAudiocom
I’m not big on Denon gear, although they are put in the level of high quality, my experience with several of their products has been less than positive (i.e. reliability problems).

You might consider Yamaha or Onkyo instead. Pioneer is also a good choice as well.

Happy listening!

Please recommend some sensibly priced surround sound WIRELESS speakers/system to use with?

Question by Logan7: Please recommend some sensibly priced surround sound WIRELESS speakers/system to use with?
an LCD TV here in UK. A link would be appreciated.

My recommendation? Don’t go wireless. Something no one tells you about wireless systems is how they affect sound quality. Unless you go real expensive and get the wireless digital transmitting system.

You see, all wireless speaker setups broadcast the signal to the rear speakers on the 2.4 gigahertz bandwidth. I am not sure if for some freaky reason they’d do it differently in the UK, but there is a host of other devices that use the 2.4 gigahertz frequency. Mainly:
Cell Phones
Cordless Phones
Wi-Fi systems
Microwaves
TV broadcasts (in places where its still found analog)
Radio broadcasts (again, in analog areas)
and last but not least, Bluetooth Devices

This means that just about any wireless electronics you have either on your person or in your house will interfere with the broadcast of the sound channels from the receiver to the speakers.

I would never recommend you get wireless front speakers: most wireless systems require you to run speaker wire to a transmitter hub, which then interfaces with another hub inbetween the two speakers you want hooked up, which are wired to that unit. So in other words, the speakers are still wired, just in the case of rear speakers there won’t be wire running across the room. Front speakers will still have to be wired to an area behind the TV, where the wireless unit sits and communicates with another wireless unit right in front of it.

In other words, the best Audio quality is still had with wired speakers. I’ve even been to a party once where a guy on his cell phone (remember, it also uses the 2.4 gigahertz frequency) had his conversation go through the back speakers. And it was not a conversation for the public.

Even if in the UK there would be a system that used a different frequency, the chances that another type of device uses the same frequency is high. Unless you couldn’t give a crap less about the quality of your sound, skip wireless for now. The only systems I’ve heard of that keep your audio quality are a digital driven, data broadcast. But these require speakers with built in decoders, basically a small computer. It gets really expensive.

If you are having trouble getting surround sound, and cannot get speaker wire either through the wall or under the carpet or hidden in any fashion, try this:

Thats a link to Bose’s 3-2-1 system, if it does not work just go to Bose.com and click “Home Theater system,” then “3-2-1.” Its not true surround sound, but it does get a sort-of surround experience without the need to run wires everywhere or degrade your audio quality. So its pretty much the king of stereo (and I do not say that lightly).

One thing I would not do is use that built in DVD player: it only plays DVDs in standard definition. Likelyhood is your LCD is a High Definition display of some sort. If that is the case, get an upconvert DVD player or Blu-Ray or HDDVD player to go with this.

what happens to kinetic energy after it becomes heat and sound?

Question by clement c: what happens to kinetic energy after it becomes heat and sound?
the principle of energy conservation states that energy cannot be created nor destroyed.
im just wondering what happens to kinetic energy when an object moves and what happens to the heat and sound dissipated, what does further convert to? doesnt it mean that an endless conversion will continue to happen after it becomes heat and sound? where does this energy go to?

for instance, if i were to walk from point A to B on a level surface, chemical energy from my muscles convert to kinetic, heat and sound right, then what happens thereafter? where is the energy? what does it mean when energy is dissipated as heat and sound, doesnt it only mean it becomes kinetic energy of air particles, which then what happens to it?
by the principle, wont there be an endless conversion? if not wont there just be a build up of energy in the air particles?

and also, not all kinetic energy is converted to heat and sound, it it? so what happens to the kinetic energy? say if i wave my hand in the air, what happens to the kinetic energy? since there is minimal conversion to heat and sound only, right?

and since the earth’s source of energy is the sun, does it mean that as time goes by, the more exposure to the sun and hence the amount of energy in the system of our planet will just keep increasing? :D

sound and heat are molecules in motion. I’m not sure what you mean by endless conversion. Yes energy will be transferred and/or converted depending on what happens. For example if you fire up some coal to provide energy for a steam engine, the chemical energy is converted to thermal energy which causes the steam to do work on a piston where that energy is converted into kinetic energy if its hooked up to some wheel axle or into electrical potential if we’re making electricity…

Geneva speakers vs. Bose speakers?

Question by Alex H: Geneva speakers vs. Bose speakers?
i need a speaker system that has radio/clock/ipod functions and has exceptional sound quality. i have been looking at the geneva s model and the bose wave. i love the design of both but when it comes to song i can get very picky. when it comes to design i LOVE simplicity. who can offer me some insight on the sound quality of these systems and also any recommendations of speakers i might like. thanks so much

Best answer:

Answer by mark_hensley@sbcglobal.net
Which Bose speakers are you comparing? If you are referring to the Bose Sounddock 10 or the Bose Acoustic Wave Radio then I would argue Bose over Geneva speakers. The legacy of Geneva speakers are formidable. They have been in the studio and offer great insight into music, but the sound quality of the one’s I have heard is lacking. Best I can put into words is the sound is arrested, held up, masked even muffled, it could be so much more, but it cannot. Geneva didn’t give their best sonic effort to match their reputation, design and colors of the Geneva box. On the contrary, either Bose units provide a robust vibrant well rounded sound stage. The Bose Sounddock 10 does it best of the three. It is hundreds less out of pocket. My recommendation is to go listen to the Sounddock 10, be sure to turn it up, then turn it down, see what you hear.

Best.

Does any Surround Sound home cinema system compare to Bose?

Question by BREADY4U: Does any Surround Sound home cinema system compare to Bose?
I’m looking at getting a home surround system that is QUALITY not cheap and cheerful. I already have a dvd/HD player that I want it to connect to and have been looking at the new Bose Lifestyle V20 kit that sounds superb and is very small and neat (I don’t want huge amps etc), but at £1750 not sure it is worth this kind of money. I’m not looking to go cheap, but does anyone know of a kit that is comparable in quality and size at all? Your help is appreciated :)

How do I connect an iPod to an “audiophile in-dash six CD sound system” in my Mercury Mountaineer?

Question by bryan89: How do I connect an iPod to an “audiophile in-dash six CD sound system” in my Mercury Mountaineer?
Hey, guys. I have a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer with an “audiophile in-dash six CD sound system” stereo. I am going on a long trip and want to connect my iPod to the stereo system. How is it that I can go about doing this? I don’t want to buy one of those $ 300 factory made adaptors. Something under $ 50?

Answer by niftymatt490
If you have a cassette player then you can buy an adapter. I have one, and it works quite well. Not the best sound quality, but it does the job. You can also do FM modulation, but that is a pretty poor method. You really just need to foot the bill for a direct connect.
